Nfl Start Em Sit Em Week 8: Prescott headlines QB rankings

Dak Prescott turned a Week 7 Start call into three touchdowns and 23.38 fantasy points on Monday night, and that kind of return is why he opens Week 8 as a high-end QB1 at home. The Cardinals have been the kind of matchup that changes a manager’s week, allowing more than 16 fantasy points to six straight starters and more than 21 to four of them.

The numbers behind Arizona’s defense explain the confidence. The Cardinals have given up the most touchdown passes in the league, 17, while sitting in the bottom five in passer rating at 112.5, yards per attempt at 8.5, EPA/dropback at 0.24, explosive pass rate at 18.4%, and pressure rate at 31.8%. That is the same matchup profile that pushes Prescott to the front of the week’s Start 'Em, Sit 'Em discussion, because the recommendation is not about reputation; it is about a defense that has not forced opposing quarterbacks out of productive game scripts.

Kyler Murray still brings a usable floor with 90 rushing yards over his last two outings and zero turnovers in three straight starts, but the other side of that game matters too. The Lions have allowed 25.63 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, which keeps Murray in the start conversation rather than the automatic bench pile. Kirk Cousins has been even steadier, topping 18.5 fantasy points in five of his last six games and ranking as the QB5 over that stretch, one of three quarterbacks averaging more than 250 passing yards and two touchdown passes per game. Joe Brissett gets the Cowboys, and that is another place where matchup rules the call: Dallas has allowed the sixth-most points per game to quarterbacks and has given up 20-plus fantasy points to every opposing quarterback besides Jalon Daniels and Tanner McKee.

The bigger friction point is Jared Goff. He has been consistently excellent this season, but Minnesota is No. 1 in almost every relevant passing metric cited here, including a TD-to-INT ratio of 3:7, a completion percentage over expected of -7.5%, a success rate of 35.4%, EPA/dropback of -0.26 and just 7.58 fantasy points allowed per game to quarterbacks. The Vikings also have the league’s highest pressure rate at 48.8%, and that combination is enough to knock Goff from a top-five play to somewhere just outside QB1 range. Patrick Mahomes is in an even more uncomfortable spot in Denver, where he has totaled just 16.48 points over his last two weeks and has zero touchdowns with two interceptions since Week 6. The Broncos have snagged seven interceptions and allowed just eight touchdowns in seven games, and that is before you factor in that Kansas City’s defense is tougher than Arizona’s.

Bo Nix is the other name fantasy managers may be tempted to chase after his breakout against the Cardinals, but that game should not be overvalued. Nearly half of his fantasy points came on one fluky run in Week 7, and he was inefficient as a passer. The column is built for those calls at the margins, where one hot box score can blur the line between a real start and a trap. Prescott’s rise, Goff’s downgrade and Mahomes’ slide are the kind of Week 8 decisions that decide lineups before the games even begin.

The new Start of the Week and Sit of the Week labels are the most notable calls because they sharpen the choices fantasy managers actually face. NFL Pro, Next Gen Stats, All-22 and the Fantasy AI Assistant all point in the same direction here: lean into Prescott’s matchup, respect the pressure and turnover risk around Goff and Mahomes, and do not let one lucky run from Nix rewrite the board.
