The Seattle Seahawks waived Christian Haynes on Tuesday, ending the former third-round pick’s run with the club after a trade for Quenton Nelson reshaped the interior offensive line. The move freed a roster spot and made Haynes the odd man out in a group that changed quickly this week.

Seattle sent a pair of draft picks to the Indianapolis Colts for Nelson, an All-Pro guard, and then moved on from Haynes to make the numbers work. That sequence matters because it shows the Seahawks did not just add one veteran blocker; they made a direct decision about who no longer fit once the roster tightened.

Haynes was drafted in 2024 with enough upside to suggest a real path forward, but that path never opened. The Seahawks started Anthony Bradford and Sataoa Laumea during Haynes’ rookie season, and Bradford’s healthiest season limited Haynes to 32 snaps during the 2025 Super Bowl winning campaign. By 2026, Haynes had a chance to start, yet Beau Stephens rotated into each game, leaving him stuck behind other options for much of his first two years in the league.

The deeper issue was crowding. The Seahawks had selected four interior offensive linemen in the last two drafts, and the Nelson trade pushed that competition into a smaller space. Haynes was not cut because the position disappeared; he was waived because the room around him filled up faster than he could secure a regular role.

What comes next is straightforward even if the full arrangement is not. Seattle has a new interior anchor in Nelson, but the waiver of Haynes leaves the Seahawks with one fewer young option and no public answer yet on how the remaining blockers will be sorted when the lineup is set again.
