Winter Park police responded to a soccer-field dispute involving a 3-year-old boy named Nevada after his parents said officers were called because he was too good at soccer. The child’s parents later left the park with him after officers spoke with them and with a coach.

A viral Instagram video posted by the parents showed Nevada dribbling the ball and scoring goals while officers stood on the field. In the video, his father said, “They called police on a 3-year-old ‘cause he’s too good.” That clip made the family’s claim travel far beyond the field in Florida and turned an ordinary youth game into a public argument about what happened there.

Gray News obtained body camera video from Winter Park police, and it shows officers hearing a different version from the coach. He said the boy was very advanced compared with the other children, that there were six kids on the team, and that he was trying to tell Nevada to play without pushing other kids. The coach said he swapped players out so everyone would get time, and that the parents did not like it and called him ignorant. He told officers he wanted the parents out immediately.

An officer then told the parents that the coach said they were causing a disturbance that was interfering with the gameplay. Nevada’s mother pushed back, saying, “They’re mad at my son because he actually plays soccer. So I’m a little confused and I’m a little baffled because I signed my kid up for soccer. So they’re literally kicking him out of this place because he’s good at soccer.” Another officer said the coach had specifically said the boy was very good, but did not like how the parents became aggressive.

That is the key divide in the dispute: the parents say their son was singled out for excelling, while the coach and police describe a separate problem involving the adults’ behavior on the sideline. One officer even said, “I kinda want to see him play. I bet he’s good.” But the body camera footage and the police event report point to the same ending — the parents left the field without issue and were cooperative with the request of league personnel.

The episode stands out because it involved a toddler, a youth league and police officers on the field at the same time, all over a game that the parents say should have been about their son playing soccer. What remains unclear is what happened before officers arrived that made the coach ask for the parents to be removed at all.
