Josh Petty came back in uniform after a long injury absence and ended up as Georgia Tech's highest-graded player in a 49-27 loss to Boston College. His 82.6 grade stood out in a game the Yellow Jackets would rather forget, but it also showed that the returnee made an immediate impression.
That is why the grades from Week 8 matter now. Georgia Tech lost by 22 points, yet the review still found several players who performed well, with Grady Adamson, Kevin Roche Jr, Dalen Penson and Jordan Allen also grading favorably. Petty's name carried the most weight because he was back in uniform and still produced the top mark on the team.
Jonas Duclona made the defensive case even stronger. He was the highest-graded defender for Georgia Tech on Saturday, while Trae Stevenson Jr posted a 75.0 defensive grade and Taje McCoy and Tae Harris were among the top four graded defenders. Snap counts, listed in parentheses, were part of the review, but the numbers available do not answer the bigger question about how much Petty actually played or what his role should be next.
That gap matters because the result itself was embarrassing enough without the silver lining of individual grades. Georgia Tech can point to a few strong performances, but the team still absorbed a 49-27 loss, and Petty's return now leaves one practical question in front of the staff: whether his best path forward is a larger workload, since the numbers suggest he should play as much as possible.
