Valencia announced a deal with Pitchwise Holdings on the eve of its LaLiga derby against Villarreal, a move that will bring 100 million euros of new capital into the club and value it at 1.250 billion euros. In the club’s own statement, Pitchwise Holdings is set to reach a 42 percent participation in Valencia.
That made the timing impossible to miss. The derby was already drawing attention because Valencia had taken points in three of its last four LaLiga matches, while Villarreal arrived with nine points from its first nine league games in 2026/27. On the same day the lineups were confirmed at Mestalla, the match carried a second storyline that sat far beyond the pitch.
Valencia’s team sheet included Dimitrievski, Maffeo, Tárrega, De Haas, Gayá, Guido, Pepelu, Otorbi, Guerra, Rioja and Hugo Duro. Villarreal’s lineup listed Peter Gulácsi, Freeman, Mouriño, Foyth, Renato Veiga, Akhomach, Gueye, Maciá, Buchanan, Gerard and Ayoze Pérez. The football side of the evening still mattered, but the ownership news had already turned the derby into something larger than a local contest.
That is the twist for Valencia. The club had just improved after a stretch of four straight defeats, and it had lost only one of its last 18 home derbies against teams from the Comunitat Valenciana in LaLiga before this match. Yet even with that recent lift, the announcement showed the club entering a major financial and ownership shift at the same moment it was trying to build momentum on the field.
What remains unclear is how the 100 million euros will be structured inside the broader operation, and how much control will move as Pitchwise Holdings reaches 42 percent. Valencia has put a number and a stake on the table; the next test is whether that changes the club as quickly as the derby changes the mood around it.
