My Chemical Romance is facing cease and desist orders over a stage stunt at the Hollywood Bowl that used lookalikes in Cowboys cheerleader-style outfits during a gun-battle routine. The dispute surfaced alongside a Friday night TikTok reaction from Stephanie Roberts, who danced for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders from 2015 to 2018.

Roberts did not sound outraged. She wrote, “As a DCC alumni, I have a whole lot of nothing to say...” and then added, “Let’s clarify one thing, the actual [Cowboys cheerleaders] were NOT present at this concert,” putting a sharp edge on a story that might otherwise have blurred the real cheerleaders with the imitation routine.

That distinction matters because the legal action is being described in different ways, as a cease and desist order and as a restraining order, and the complaint itself is still not fully clear. What is known is that the band put fake cheerleaders onstage, and what is not clear is whether the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are objecting to the lookalike costumes, the gun routine, or both.

The mix of costume, branding and choreography is what gives the case its bite. A performance can borrow a style and still cross a line if it makes the wrong audience think a protected look is being used without permission. That is why the legal claim matters more than the stunt alone. If the dispute is about the uniforms, it is one kind of fight; if it is about the whole routine, it is another.

For now, the only firm answer is that the real Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders were not at the concert, and Roberts was quick to say so herself. The next step is the legal one, and that is where the band will have to explain whether this was a pointed stage joke or a step too far.
