The iPhone Duo went on sale today, and within hours a few units were already showing broken inner screens along the hinge. Posts on Reddit pointed to the same rough spot on several affected phones, making the launch feel less like a debut than the first live test of a folding design.
One user in Australia said their phone lasted about six hours and was opened fewer than 20 times before they heard an audible crack as they unfolded it. The screen broke right along the hinge, and the user said there were no marks or damage on the inner screen surface or the external hinge to suggest anything had been caught or crushed.
The reports matter because this is the first day buyers have had a chance to use the phone in ordinary life, and the failure pattern is already concentrating on the inner display. A strange bright line or lines were said to appear across the right side of the display, which makes the damage look less like random wear and more like a problem tied to the fold itself.
There is still a gap between what owners are seeing and what anyone can explain. The broken phones were reported from Reddit posts and images rather than from an official Apple statement, so the evidence is early and incomplete. But the details that keep repeating are hard to ignore: the same part of the screen, the same hinge area, and damage appearing without any visible injury to the device.
At least one customer got a fast resolution. The Apple Store replaced that phone with a brand-new one on the spot, suggesting the failure was serious enough to warrant immediate action. Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment, leaving the next step unclear as more first-day buyers put the iPhone Duo through its first real hours in the wild.
