HGTV is taking the Home Town franchise north with Home Town Takeover Canada, a new spin-off that premieres on October 25 and shifts the renovation spotlight to Vancouver Island. Bryan Baeumler and Sarah Baeumler will host the series, replacing Ben Napier and Erin Napier as the faces of the latest chapter.
The new run turns a 12-week project into eight episodes, condensing the work into a format that keeps the pace tight while the renovation unfolds on screen. That matters now because the premiere is days away, and the franchise is moving from a familiar small-town American frame into a Canadian setting that has not been part of the series before.
The community at the center of the show is dealing with more than aging buildings. The area has faced tsunamis and forest fires, and those fires have already taken a toll by closing mills and damaging resources. The Seshaht and the Hupacasath First Nations are named in the region as part of the story the series will tell.
Ben Napier said the takeover format is a lot of work, and he described Bryan and Sarah as a strong fit for it, saying Bryan in Canada is like the Michael Jordan of home renovation. He also said it felt good to hand the project off to them. That handoff is the clearest sign that this is not just another installment, but a franchise passing into new hands for the first time in a different country.
Bryan said the experience took him back to being a kid in the 80s. He said everybody knows each other, that the community is supportive, and that the First Nations he met are an incredible asset. He added that meeting the elected chiefs of the Seshaht and the Hupacasath First Nations, spending time with them, and being involved in their culture was incredible.
That is where the new series departs from a simple renovation story. Ben and Erin Napier have said townspeople must tell their own story, and Erin said the goal is to help a town move a little further down the road to rebirth or growth. The pair have said you cannot come into a town and make it something it is not, a warning that lands even harder when the franchise is expanding beyond the United States.
Bryan said he wanted to put on a red-and-black checkered jacket and ride into town on a moose, then added that it felt so Canadian. The joke fits the moment, but the bigger change is structural: Home Town Takeover Canada is the first clear step in taking the format international, and its success will depend on whether the show can keep its small-town heart while letting Vancouver Island speak for itself.
