The FDA announced a recall of about 44,064 cans of Great Value Fruit Cocktail on October 1, 2026 after potential elevated lead contamination was identified in the product. The recall covers 15-ounce cans of Great Value Fruit Cocktail in Fruit Juice from Concentrate sold in seven states.

For shoppers, the timing matters because the product was already on shelves in Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wyoming before the recall landed. The FDA said consumers should avoid eating the fruit cocktail, return it to Walmart, or dispose of it safely. The company behind the recall, Pacific Coast Producers, initiated the action the same day the FDA announced it, and the affected lot totals roughly 1,836 cases of 24 cans each.

The health concern is lead, a toxic metal the FDA says can cause serious problems when consumed. That warning carries extra weight for children and pregnant women, because exposure can affect brain development and other bodily functions. Even so, the recall was classified as Class II, which means the FDA considers temporary or medically reversible health consequences possible while serious harm is viewed as remote.

One detail still leaves room for questions: the FDA did not explain how the contamination was found. What is clear is what consumers should do next. Anyone with the recalled Great Value Fruit Cocktail should not eat it and should either return it to Walmart or dispose of it safely. For additional questions, the FDA listed 1-888-INFO-FDA, or 1-888-463-6332.
