Reba McEntire is a grandmother again after Shelby Blackstock and Marissa welcomed their first baby boy. The couple shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, posting the kind of announcement that lands with extra force after a year shaped by loss, waiting and treatment that did not come easily.
Blackstock, 36, wrote that after everything it took to get there, he and Marissa finally get to call themselves Mom and Dad. He also said they have spent these first few weeks just to themselves, holding onto the moment before opening it up to everyone else. Marissa later revealed the baby’s name: Shelby Archer McEntire Blackstock, with Archie as a nickname to distinguish him from his father.
That name carries the weight of a much longer story. The couple had been trying for three years, announced in April that they were expecting a baby boy in October, and said they were entering a second round of IVF treatments when the pregnancy was shared. They had also lost a baby in December, leaving the new arrival to follow a stretch of grief that Marissa said included more loss than she ever imagined she could carry.
Marissa wrote that the baby arrived the day after her dad passed, and said grief had reshaped her world in ways she did not expect. In her words, the child became a small silver thread that helped her heart keep going. She also said the baby showed her that her body can do this, and that hope is not gone. The couple did not share how long the baby was in the hospital or what made the first days rough, leaving that part of the story private for now.
For McEntire, the news adds a new generation to a family story she has said moves too fast to keep up with. She has previously described herself as “an invisible grandparent,” saying she rarely sees the grandchildren she already has time with, including River and Remington. This time, though, the family has a baby boy to hold onto, and the next update may come only when Shelby and Marissa decide they are ready to share more.
