Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman is stepping away from live performances for a while because of a sudden and fairly serious health issue, leaving The Offspring to carry on without one of its longtime members. He said Wednesday, Oct. 21 that he had to make the decision now and did not say when he expects to return.

Wasserman posted the statement to The Offspring's social media accounts on Wednesday and told fans the rest of the band is supporting him. He said he hopes to be back on stage sooner rather than later and added that he will miss fans with all of his heart.

The timing matters because the announcement landed while the band still had several shows on its official schedule. The Offspring had played Aftershock festival at Discovery Park in Sacramento on Oct. 1, then still had a show set for Saturday, Oct. 24 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, followed by dates at SEMA Fest in Las Vegas on Nov. 6, Corona Capital in Mexico City on Nov. 21 and iHeartRadio's ALTer Ego 2027 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on Jan. 16.

Wasserman did not disclose the nature of the condition, and that is where the story stops short of a full answer. The band said it would continue performing without him, which means the immediate question is not whether The Offspring will keep going, but how long one of its core players will be absent from the stage.

He has been with The Offspring since the band's early years and has played on all of its studio albums, including 2024's Supercharged. That makes the gap more than a single missed appearance; it is the interruption of a run that has stretched back to the group's Orange County formation in 1984 and through the years when songs like Come Out and Play, Self Esteem and Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) made them one of the defining punk-rock acts of the 1990s. For now, the band has a schedule to keep and a guitarist it has to do without.

Wasserman has not given a return date, and that leaves the next step unresolved in plain sight: whether he is back for the next stretch of shows or out longer than fans want to imagine.
