Adam Joseph is taking over the top weather job at Action News. On Monday, 6abc said the longtime meteorologist has been named chief meteorologist, succeeding Cecily Tynan after her retirement in September.

The announcement answered the question Joseph himself had set up earlier in the day. He posted on X that viewers should tune in at 6 PM to Action News for a big announcement, and said he had been blessed for more than 27 years to work in a profession he believed he was born to do. He also promised a look down memory lane and what was next for him.

Joseph joined the Action News AccuWeather Team in 2005 and had been a senior meteorologist on Action News every weekday at 4 pm and 5:30 pm, while also covering Action News at 10 pm on PHL 17. That made his next move a matter of more than curiosity; it changed the lineup for one of the station’s most visible on-air roles.

His teaser briefly made the shift sound like it could be a retirement note. Instead, it turned into a promotion. For viewers, the real significance is not that Joseph is stepping away from meteorology, but that he is moving into the lead weather position left open by Tynan’s departure.

What remains unclear is the on-air schedule he will keep after the promotion. 6abc confirmed the title change and the succession, but did not spell out whether his weekday broadcasts at 4 pm and 5:30 pm, or his 10 pm work on PHL 17, will continue in the same form. That is the next detail viewers will be watching for.
