Lucasfilm is reportedly searching for a development partner for Star Wars Battlefront 3, with EA DICE and Bungie named as the two studios in the mix. The rumor surfaced on the morning of the report when Jeff Grubb discussed it on Game Mess Mornings.
That is why Battlefront 3 is back in the conversation today: not because the game has been confirmed, but because a new rumor has put two major studios beside it. The claim is that Lucasfilm has been aggressively looking for help on a follow-up to the Battlefront series, and that the project could end up with EA DICE or, if that path does not hold, Bungie.
The detail that gives the rumor weight is the way it was framed through a long-running industry chain. Quarterman, the pen name for the editor of Electronic Gaming Monthly, was said to have listed Star Wars Battlefront 3 in issue 265, which was sent to Kickstarter backers last week. In the same account, Quarterman described Disney as having big plans for the Star Wars Battlefront series and said Battlefront 2’s sustained popularity made a third game seem like an easy call — only to add that it had not yet happened.
There is also a reason Bungie keeps coming up in the same breath. The studio worked with Lucasfilm Games last year on the Star Wars-themed Destiny 2 expansion Renegades, and its name is now being floated as a possible landing spot if the project is not trusted with DICE. Bungie, best known for Halo, Destiny and Marathon, would be an unusual turn for the series, but the rumor treats that possibility as real enough to mention alongside EA DICE.
That is where the friction sits: the project may not even be greenlit, and no studio has fully stepped up, even with two major names circling it. Douglas Reilly has also pointed to Battlefront as part of Lucasfilm Games’ future strategy, which keeps the idea alive, but strategy is not the same thing as a signed deal. For now, Star Wars Battlefront 3 remains a rumor with real names attached and no final studio chosen.
