NBC will launch Newlyweds on Friday, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET, putting Tea Leoni and Tim Daly at the center of a new sitcom built around a married couple playing spouses on screen. New episodes will air every Friday and stream the next day on Peacock.
Leoni is the reason the show is drawing attention now. After tying the knot with Daly in July 2025, she said she wanted to keep working together on something lighter, adding that the world had gotten darker and they wanted to get lighter. She also said they had done sitcoms before and loved them, and that they wanted to spend their days together.
That gives Newlyweds a simple pitch with a built-in audience hook: real-life spouses in a scripted comedy. Leoni plays Jeanie and Daly plays James, while Jamie Lee Curtis will recur in a guest role. Gail Lerner created the series and has a long comedy track record, having written, produced and directed on Will & Grace, Black-ish and Happy Endings.
The supporting cast fills out the family and workplace around the central pair. Emma Meisel plays Jeanie’s daughter, Poppy, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio plays Jeanie’s adopted son, Lolo, and Bill O’Neill plays Arvid, James’ assistant in the philosophy department at the University of Oslo. NBC is placing the show immediately after Reba McEntire’s Happy’s Place in its Friday lineup, which gives it a clearer handoff than a late-night debut would have.
There is also a practical reason the launch matters now: live taping tickets are available in Universal City, California, through November, which means the show’s early run will unfold in public view for weeks after the premiere. What NBC cannot know yet is whether viewers will lean into the chemistry that made Leoni and Daly a real couple after years of playing versions of one. For now, the network has set the date, set the slot and left the response to the audience.
