Roschon Johnson logged a season-high 27 offensive snaps in the Chicago Bears' 31-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers, and the increase came with Kyle Monangai sidelined. Johnson turned that workload into five catches for 34 receiving yards on seven targets, plus six rushing yards on five carries.
That line looked better late than it did in real time. All five of Johnson's receptions came in the fourth quarter, when Chicago was already down by 24 points, which gave his box score a lift without changing his place in the backfield. D'Andre Swift remained the primary option, and Johnson still has only nine carries for 22 yards through five games.
That is why the performance matters now. Johnson is being searched as a possible Week 6 waiver answer, but his usage still points to a backup role rather than a dependable fantasy starter. He is rostered in just 5% of leagues in RotoBaller's Week 6 waiver rankings, and he is viewed as a speculative depth option in 14-team formats at best.
The one variable that could move him out of that lane is Monangai's status. Monangai is considered week-to-week, and if he remains unavailable, Johnson can keep the larger reserve workload he saw in Week 5. If Monangai returns, Johnson is likely to slip back into a smaller role behind Swift, with little room for reliable production beyond occasional garbage-time use.
For now, the numbers say what the eye test did not: the snap jump was real, but the role remains fragile. Johnson's next chance against Atlanta depends less on what he did against Green Bay than on whether Chicago has another back available beside Swift.
