Marianne von Gierke died unexpectedly at 40, weeks after competing in Mr. Olympia 2026. The National Physique Committee confirmed her death, but did not reveal what caused it.
Her result in the Women’s Physique division, where she finished 13th, now sits beside a far more abrupt ending. The loss lands with added force because von Gierke was not only a figure in bodybuilding, but also an attorney and the mother of an 11-year-old son.
She had spent 10 years in a relationship with Juan Cofré García, who rushed her to Clínica RedSalud Magallanes during the night of October 13. At the clinic, efforts to revive her were unsuccessful, and the circumstances that led there remain unresolved.
That silence is what keeps the story open. TVN reported that the leading hypothesis is sudden death, but that explanation has not been confirmed, and the committee’s statement left the cause out entirely. For now, the only certain facts are that von Gierke was alive weeks after Mr. Olympia 2026 and gone before the questions around her final hours were answered.
