Seattle Sounders FC enter their October 17 meeting with CF Montreal at Lumen Field as a heavy favorite, priced at -333 by BetVictor, while Montreal sits at +500 and the draw at +425. The numbers reflect more than home-field advantage. Seattle is seventh in the Western Conference and eight points clear of ninth, so a win would move Brian Schmetzer's side a major step closer to a playoff berth.

That is why the match is drawing attention now. Seattle had won four of its last five before the game, but its nine-game unbeaten streak ended with a 1-0 loss at FC Dallas in midweek. Even with that setback, the Rave Green still looked like a team with margin for error. They had also kept six league clean sheets this season, and two of them came in their last five league matches, a sign that their results have not depended only on scoring runs.

Montreal brings the opposite profile into the match. It was bottom of the East on 24 points and had taken just four points from its last 27 available. The midweek trip made that run harder to ignore, with a 3-0 home loss to Atlanta United following the Canadian Classique against Toronto FC. In August, Montreal was thrashed 7-1 at Inter Miami CF, and the form since then has done little to calm the pressure around the side.

The betting market is not relying only on recent records, though. Seattle had already beaten Montreal 5-0 in the teams' last meeting, when Raul Ruidiaz scored twice and Jordan Morris, Alex Roldan and Dylan Teves also found the net. A 3-0 Seattle win was also listed at +850, which shows how strongly the market expects Seattle to control the game again without needing a repeat of that lopsided scoreline.

For Seattle, the task is straightforward: use home ground, the defensive edge and a far better table position to bank the points it still needs. For Montreal, the question is narrower and more urgent — whether it can avoid another heavy defeat and at least slow a slide that has left it stuck at the bottom of the East.
