Los Angeles County Fire Department crews are battling the Azusa Fire, an approximately 15-acre brush fire reported around 1:09 p.m. near N. San Gabriel Canyon Road and N. Ranch Road in Azusa. An evacuation order is in place for zone AZU-MCO1.
The blaze is drawing urgent attention because it is burning during a Red Flag Warning in Southern California, with forecasters saying a moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event is expected to keep fire danger critical through Saturday. That combination helps explain why a fire measured in acres, not miles, is serious enough to trigger an evacuation order.
The fire is in the San Gabriel Valley, where dry winds can turn a small brush fire into a fast-moving threat in a short time. Aerial footage showed water-dropping aircraft at the scene, while crews moved through the adjacent neighborhood to enforce the evacuation order and keep residents out of harm’s way.
What remains unanswered is the detail residents in zone AZU-MCO1 need most: how long they will be kept out and whether the fire stays near its current size. For now, the order stands, the warning remains in place, and the Peak Fire is still an active response rather than a contained incident.
