Bend Police were at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend after a report of an active shooter, prompting a large police presence around the school on Friday. Families were told to go to Journey Church for reunification while the situation developed.
The response was immediate and visible, and that alone was enough to send parents looking for the safest place to wait for their children. Police said the reunification location for families would be Journey Church, 61303 S Highway 97, near Goodwill and Dairy Queen.
Silver Rail Elementary School is in Bend, Oregon, and the police presence there drew attention because it involved a reported active-shooter emergency at a school. KTVZ reported that Bend Police confirmed there was a large police presence at the school, but the information released did not say whether the report had been verified or what triggered the response.
That missing piece matters because families were already being directed to a separate reunification site while police handled the scene. Bend Police said they would share more information as soon as they could, and until then the key facts were the ones parents needed most: where to go, and that the response at Silver Rail Elementary School was still developing.
