Runescape Reignited is now being framed as the big finish to a year of work, with Mod Ryan saying the update effort will reach its end point on December 2. In an interview after RuneFest 2026, Ryan and Mod Luma put the date on the map and tied it to the broader Road to Restoration drive that has been running through this year.
That is why players are searching for Runescape Reignited now. It is not being pitched as a small cleanup or a routine balance pass. Ryan said it is the culmination of a year’s worth of work, and he linked it directly to plans that stretch into 2027 and beyond.
The way the two developers described it, Reignited sits inside a larger reset for RuneScape. Ryan said the Road to Restoration was meant to bring the heart back to RuneScape, with Treasure Hunter removed and the game remastered, cleaned up and rebalanced. He also said RuneScape belongs to a family of games that includes RuneScape, Old School and Dragonwilds, which gives the effort a wider context than a single update.
Ryan’s own background gives the comments extra weight. He said he has been playing RuneScape for 22-23 years and has worked at Jagex for 13 years, with almost every RuneFest in that stretch. Luma, who said she had attended many RuneFests as a player, added a detail that helps explain the shape of the game’s day-to-day reality: someone can mine on a phone after leaving a PC, or keep playing on desktop and then switch to mobile on the move.
That flexibility matters because Ryan also said RuneScape was not built to be a mobile-only game, even though some players now use it that way. The gap between how the game was designed and how parts of the audience actually use it is part of the story here. RuneScape has become a game some people split across desktop and phone, while others live in only one of those modes.
For now, December 2 is the clearest marker in the calendar. What remains unclear is the exact shape of the release that will land there. Ryan has pointed to remastering, cleanup and rebalancing as the work at the center of Road to Restoration, but the interview leaves the final contents of Runescape Reignited open, which is exactly what will keep players watching the date.
