Brian Thomas Jr. stays in trade chatter after solid Jaguars win

Brian Thomas Jr. is still drawing trade talk ahead of the deadline, even after he turned in a solid outing in the Jacksonville Jaguars' 22-7 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The performance did not quiet the conversation around the 2024 first-round pick; it may have only sharpened it.

That is why Thomas keeps showing up in searches today. He remains the subject of chatter because the Jaguars have made it clear they expect him to make plays in the near future, yet he is no longer one of their top passing-game targets. Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers and Brenton Strange all have bigger roles, while Josh Cameron is quickly carving out a niche on offense.

The clearest sign that this is more than idle speculation is the market around him. Teams are reportedly interested, and Dan Graziano of has pointed to possible landing spots in the Kansas City Chiefs, the Las Vegas Raiders and the New England Patriots. He noted that Tyreek Hill may no longer be an option for the Chiefs at this point in his career, that the Raiders could make a playoff push and need an X receiver, and that the Patriots could use Thomas as a spark.

That does not mean Jacksonville is simply shopping him. The Jaguars do not necessarily plan to trade Thomas, and they could afford to move him because they are stacked at receiver. But if James Gladstone gets an offer he cannot refuse, the club would not want to send Thomas to an AFC team, where it could face him down the road.

That is the part that keeps this alive. Jacksonville is playing well enough that there is a strong chance it will make the playoffs, yet the team is still weighing a player with a growing profile against a receiver room that gives it some room to maneuver. If Thomas is moved, the next step is not just who gets him, but whether Jacksonville can avoid seeing the 2024 first-round pick again in conference play.
