Keaton Adams was back on stage in September, weeks after an early-August car crash left him blind in his right eye and sent him through a string of surgeries. In a video shared after the accident, he said he was still performing and still singing even after the wreck that changed his life in a matter of seconds.

That return is why people are looking at Adams now. The singer had already told followers on Instagram that he had been in an accident and would not perform on Aug. 8 at Coupland Dance Hall with Giovannie & The Hired Guns, then later posted more details about how bad the crash was and how fast he was trying to recover.

Adams said he was driving about 80 to 90 miles an hour when the car flipped a couple of times, and that he was not wearing a seatbelt. He said the crash fractured his fibula, left a large chunk of glass stuck in his retina and took about eight hours to remove. He also said he went through about 20 hours of surgery in four days.

In the video, a man with Adams said he had tried to book the singer and described the car as totaled beyond recognition. Adams, looking into the camera, answered with a pirate-like “argh,” then later told viewers he was still breathing and still singing. A female fan told him she was glad he did not die, a blunt reminder of how close the crash came to becoming a fatal one.

The unresolved part now is not whether Adams is back on stage. He is. The question is how much of a limit the crash will leave behind, because he has already made clear that the injury cost him sight in one eye, even as he pushes forward with performances and recovery at the same time.
