Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge ended their relationship on Oct. 8, closing the book on nearly 10 years together. Wharton said they had decided to go their separate ways and described the split as a hard one to say publicly, while Selfridge said she was the one who left.
The breakup drew attention because it was not just a relationship ending, but the end of a long family unit built around two young daughters. Wharton said he and Selfridge shared years of memories and love, and that his next chapter is about the girls and the work he needs to do on himself. Selfridge, in her own post, made the reason for leaving plain: she said she was sick of not getting basic respect from a person she had been with for nine years and the father of her two children.
Wharton and Selfridge first met on Ex on the Beach in 2017, and over the years their relationship played out alongside the realities of parenting, public attention and health scares. They share Mila, 6, and Maya, 4, and Wharton also has Ryder, 9, with Cheyenne Floyd. Maya has had multiple hospital stays because of a congenital heart condition, and Wharton said earlier this year that one of those stays briefly pushed aside conflicts between him and Selfridge and made them focus on their child’s health.
That history makes the split harder to flatten into a simple mutual decision. Wharton apologized and said there were times he could have been better, saying he wanted to learn from his mistakes, grow, heal and become the best version of himself he can be. Selfridge’s posts, though, pointed to something more specific than drift or distance: she said everyone could tell how the last few years had gone, and that she deserved more than what she was getting.
What comes next is less about a public relationship than a private reset. Wharton said he is looking ahead to being a girl dad and said he is excited, if nervous, about what the future holds. For now, the clearest fact is that both of them have drawn a line under the relationship, even if they are telling the story of why it ended in very different ways.
