Chicago Fire returns on Wednesday, October 7 with a season 15 premiere built around a warehouse fire and a warning that multiple members of Rescue Squad 3 are in danger. The episode, titled New Blood, opens with a problem that gets worse fast and leaves the squad facing consequences before the hour is over.
That is why the Chicago Fire cast is drawing fresh attention now. Victor Teran, who has taken over as showrunner after Andrea Newman stepped aside, said everyone is in danger in the premiere and added that the story will keep turning once civilians are found inside the building. He said the fire will go sideways, then even more wrong, which is the kind of setup that usually means the damage will not end when the alarm does.
New Blood also brings in new blood in the literal sense. Da'Vinchi joins as a new firefighter candidate, and Matthew Daddario appears in the premiere as another candidate, so the hour is not only about survival but also about how the next round of firefighters gets tested under pressure. The premiere follows the aftermath of the warehouse fire, which gives the new arrivals no soft landing and puts the old guard under immediate strain.
The bigger wrinkle is that the danger in the opening episode sits beside exits later in the season. Dermot Mulroney is expected to appear in only one episode before Dom Pascal is written out, and Joe Cruz will also leave sometime during season 15. Joe Minoso is set to appear in some episodes, but it is not known how many, or how Cruz will be written out after being in the warehouse when it exploded. That leaves the season starting with a disaster and ending with one of its longest-running questions still unresolved.
What is already clear is that New Blood is using the premiere to reset the board with a fire, new candidates, and real risk for the people already in the building. The only mystery left is how much of season 15 will belong to the aftermath.
