Arc Raiders Update adds a lower-rarity grappling hook with huge skill ceiling

Frozen Trail is set to change how Arc Raiders moves. The game’s biggest update adds a new grappling hook that sits far below the snaphook in rarity, but gives players a new way to swing between ledges, climb ropes, and build speed through a fight instead of just crossing open ground.

That matters now because Frozen Trail is right around the corner, and the preview made clear that this is not a small balance pass. It is being framed as Arc Raiders’ biggest ever update, with new enemies, weapons, gadgets, and a whole snowy map built into the package. For players searching for an Arc Raiders update, the hook is the part that changes the feel of movement first.

The contrast with the snaphook is the point. The old tool has been in the game since launch and sits in legendary-tier territory, which makes many players treat it like something too valuable to risk. The new grappling hook lowers that barrier. It is easier to obtain, but it asks for more from the player: aim at a ledge by hand, throw the hook, climb up or down the rope to set your height, then decide whether to swing across or drop fast.

That is why the new item looks modest at first glance and ends up sounding more dangerous in practice. The hook is hard to break once it latches on, and it can be used in ways the snaphook cannot. A player can leap off a building after throwing it to descend quickly, or jump first and fire it behind them to keep moving while preserving momentum. In other words, the lower-rarity version is the one with the higher skill ceiling.

There is also a new skill that lets players scramble up walls and reach for ledges, which pushes the movement system even further. Together, the new hook and that wall-climbing ability point to a version of Arc Raiders that rewards players who can improvise in the air instead of only sprinting on the ground. The preview even showed the hook attaching to the ballistic gondola extraction method and carrying a player out of the map, which suggests the tool can affect escape as much as combat.

The broader update does not stop there. The new Pendola Pass map uses loot zones that change from round to round, while the weapon amplification system alters how certain guns work and buffs them. The writer also saw the tether launcher stop the Bully in its tracks, and used the yank grenade to drag a Hornet down just as it geared up to spray bullets, which underlines how much Frozen Trail is built around control rather than simple firepower.

The one part players still cannot judge for themselves is the endgame. The Emperor and the Frigate are meant to resemble raid-style encounters, but they were not accessible during the preview session, leaving the largest fights in Frozen Trail still under wraps. Even so, the update already looks like the point where Arc Raiders stops being defined by a single legendary traversal item and starts giving players a whole new way to move, fight, and escape.
