Chicago Fire cast changes are landing just as the show returns for its 15th season, with Dermot Mulroney and Joe Miñoso set to exit early in the new run after their storylines are wrapped. Mulroney will come back at the start of Season 15 to finish Chief Dom Pascal's arc before leaving after two seasons, while Miñoso will also appear in early episodes before saying goodbye.
That makes this week matter. Season 15 premieres on Oct. 7, and the NBC series is opening with a reset that includes both departures and returns, not just one isolated shake-up. Taylor Kinney is back as Kelly Severide, Miranda Rae Mayo returns as Stella Kidd, and Randall "Mouch" McHolland, Christopher Herrmann, Violet Mikami and Lyla Novak are also set to return.
Mulroney's exit carries its own weight because he is leaving after saying the work meant a lot to him. "We gave it our all for two seasons," he said, adding that the show "wrote an incredible storyline" that pushed him as an actor and that he loved every minute of it. The sadness in that farewell lands harder because he is not being pushed out of a dead end; he is stepping away after a part he clearly valued.
Miñoso's departure closes a longer chapter. He has played Joe Cruz since the series' pilot, and Season 14 left Cruz and several members of Firehouse 51 trapped inside a burning storage facility. It also seemed to point toward hope for him after Cruz and Chloe learned they were expecting twins. That means Season 15 begins with both a survival story and a family story still hanging in the air, even as the cast list changes around them.
The show has done this before. Jesse Spencer and Eamonn Walker both left in 2021, and the new season also adds Da'Vinchi as Marcus Burke, a funny but defiant firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51. For viewers, the immediate question is no longer whether Chicago Fire Cast Changes are coming; it is how quickly the early episodes will clear out Pascal and Cruz before the season settles into its next version of Firehouse 51.
