Vikings Waive Jeshaun Jones? Week 4 Return Window Opens

Jeshaun Jones is eligible to return to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 after serving a three-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. That makes Sunday against the Miami Dolphins the first game in which the 26-year-old receiver can be activated again.

The timing matters because Minnesota may need another body on the outside. Justin Jefferson's status for Sunday is in question because of a minor ankle injury, and the Vikings are 3-0 even as their offense sits last in yards per game this season. That has made every possible passing option more valuable than it might have been a month ago.

Jones has not taken an offensive snap for Minnesota during the regular season, but he did give the team something to evaluate before the suspension. In two preseason games, he caught six passes for 80 yards on eight targets and picked up two first downs through the air. The Vikings signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2024, and last year he played seven snaps on special teams.

That leaves Minnesota with a straightforward decision and no easy answer. The team has been winning behind special teams play and defense, but the offense has not produced enough through the air to make the receiver room feel settled. If Jefferson cannot go, adding Jones to the active roster for Week 4 is a logical way to test a player who has shown enough in limited preseason work to at least merit a look.

What happens next is simple: the Vikings must decide whether to use the first game of Jones's eligibility window to get him onto the field. If they do, it will be as much about raising the floor of a struggling passing game as it is about rewarding a receiver who has waited through the suspension to get his first regular-season chance.
