Kody Brown and Robyn Brown are not coming back for season 21 of Sister Wives, and the new season begins on Oct. 4. The change leaves TLC’s long-running family series to reopen with its central couple gone, even as the rest of the Brown family keeps sorting through what that split means.
The timing matters because the question around Kody Brown leaving Sister Wives is not just about a casting shake-up. It lands as Janelle Brown says he is alienated from 90 to 95 percent of his 18 children, while Mykelti Padron says her own relationship with him is “not very deep” right now and that they are not talking, even if they are not fully shut off from each other.
Meri Brown said she was surprised when she was told Kody and Robyn would not be returning, Janelle said she was flabbergasted, and Christine Brown said she did not know how to process it all. That reaction fits a family that has been breaking apart for years, with Janelle separating in 2021, Christine following in 2022 and Meri later ending her 32-year union with Kody Brown.
The frayed relationships are clearest in the children. Kody remains close to Robyn Brown’s eldest children, Dayton, Aurora and Breanna, as well as Solomon and Ariella, but Mykelti said she would ask him directly about Truely Brown, Ysabel Brown and Savanah Brown. She also said Kody has been reaching out and wants to figure out each relationship individually as they go, yet she still described the way forward as one family-wide connection rather than isolated conversations. Gabriel Brown’s distance is another sign of how deep the divide runs; he was first at odds with Kody over intense COVID restrictions, and the two kept their distance even after stay-home orders began to lift.
That is the real story heading into Oct. 4. Sister Wives is returning without the pair that once anchored it, and the question now is not whether the family is fractured — it is how much of that fracture the new season will show, and whether Kody can rebuild any of the ties that have already slipped away.
