Darren Till says he is not afraid of Yoel Romero, and that is what makes BKFC 94 feel bigger than a normal bare-knuckle main event. With the two set to meet on Saturday in the second bare-knuckle fight of Till’s career, he is framing the matchup as a test he chose, not one he is trying to survive.
The reason people are talking about BKFC 94 today is the staredown that followed the press conference, when Till and Romero stayed locked in place for the better part of four minutes. Till said he was not trying to prove anything in that moment except that he would not look away first, and he made clear that the faceoff was not some dramatic shift in feeling. “I don’t go off faceoff energy and stuff like that,” he said, adding that Romero broke character first by talking to him and chewing gum hard while Till stayed on his own thing.
Till’s comments give the bout its weight. He said people like to focus on Romero’s age, but he does not think that changes much, calling him big, strong and hard to hit.
