Stranger Things: Tales from '85 has not been officially renewed for Season 3, and Eric Robles is telling fans the next step rests on how many people keep watching. On Instagram, Robles asked viewers to spread the word, saying viewership motivates a new season pickup.
That message lands now because the search around Stranger Things franchise upcoming shows has shifted from launch buzz to renewal math. Netflix gave the series a two-season upfront order, and that initial order has now been fulfilled, which means a third season would need a fresh green light rather than arriving automatically.
The numbers give the series a real case for continuation, even if they do not guarantee one. The first season spent two weeks in the global top 10s, logged 23.9M viewing hours, and translated to 4.9M views. Across the first half of 2026, the series added 40.4M total viewing hours, equal to 8.3M views, while Season 2 has only shown up in the overall Top 10 TV charts in a handful of countries. In its first few days on the service, it missed the charts in major regions and landed in the bottom tier in Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine.
That mixed performance is the friction point. The show has been in the works since 2023, and early development work and outlining for a third season have reportedly already taken place, but none of that amounts to a formal renewal. It also appears to be doing slightly better in the Kids TV Shows Top 10, which suggests an audience is there, even if it is not yet broad enough to force Netflix's hand.
For now, the series sits in a narrow gap: developed enough that a third season is being mapped out, but not enough for Netflix to say yes. Robles has made the condition plain. Unless Season 2 delivers stronger viewership, Season 3 remains a possibility rather than a promise.
