DJ Moore arrived in Buffalo and changed the Week 2 fantasy conversation at once. In his Bills debut, he caught five of eight targets for 100 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans, a line that pushed him to WR9 in PPR formats and made it look as if Buffalo may already be treating him like a workhorse WR1.
That is why his name is drawing attention now, even with James Cook III carrying search interest in the background. Fantasy managers are trying to decide whether Moore should start in a Thursday night matchup with the Detroit Lions, and the opening-week numbers point strongly in that direction. The Bills now have a receiver who just cleared 100 yards for the first time since Week 12 of the 2024 season, while the Lions enter the week after allowing 410 passing yards in Week 1, the most in the NFL.
The matchup case gets even louder when the broader fantasy numbers are laid next to each other. In 2025, the Houston Texans allowed the third-fewest PPR fantasy points to wide receivers, which makes Moore’s production against them look less like a soft-defense mirage and more like a real role change. The Detroit Lions, by contrast, allowed the third-most PPR fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025, a ranking built from the same kind of weekly point totals fantasy players watch every Sunday. When a defense gives up that many passing yards and that many fantasy points, the path for a receiver to keep scoring stays open.
Still, one week can mislead. Chris Olave opened Week 1 with 10 receptions on 13 targets for 182 yards and finished as WR5 in PPR formats, a reminder that one explosive start does not guarantee the same result a week later. That is the friction here: Moore’s debut and the Lions’ first-week defensive numbers both lean toward optimism, but the sample is still thin enough that any projection beyond Thursday night remains a bet on usage, not certainty.
For now, the safer read is that Moore has earned the stronger fantasy start in the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions Thursday matchup, while the real unanswered question is how often Buffalo will keep feeding him after this first test. If the workhorse usage holds, the opening week will look less like a flash and more like the start of a new pattern.
