Saturday Night Live has added Saidah Belo-Osagie and Grace Reiter as featured players for Season 52, giving the long-running show two new SNL cast members just weeks before its return. The hires matter now because the season premieres September 26, and the new faces are part of the first lineup viewers will see when the show comes back.
Belo-Osagie is the name likely to draw the sharpest attention. The Queens, NY-based up-and-comer created Afrobeats Futura and Saidah Gets Closure, and she also wrote and directed the short film Tinge. Reiter arrives with her own résumé, as one of the original members of the TikTok-based sketch show Stapleview and a creator whose credits include Netflix’s upcoming American High mockumentary Minimum Wage, which she also wrote and directed, along with HBO’s The Chair Company with Tim Robinson and the online parody The Hunger Games (but Better).
Deadline reported that both performers had been eyed at showcases and then at screen tests before the hiring was finalized. That detail fits the way the show has refreshed itself for years: not by simply filling seats, but by looking for performers who can hold their own in sketches, play a character quickly and survive the pace of live television. The Season 52 additions also come as Chloe Fineman and Martin Herlihy have departed after seven and five seasons, respectively, leaving room in a cast that is changing as the new year approaches.
There is another reason Belo-Osagie’s addition lands with more force than a routine cast update. The show came through a season without a Black female cast member, and producers had been trying to address that after Ego Nwodim’s surprise exit in the fall of 2025. In that context, bringing in Belo-Osagie is not just a staffing move; it corrects a gap that was visible on screen and widely noted around the show.
What happens next is already taking shape behind the scenes. Sources said Saturday Night Live may shoot its new title sequence featuring the new players as soon as tomorrow, a sign that the show is moving quickly from hiring to on-air presentation. The premiere is set for 11:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. PT on September 26, with Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks hosting and KATSEYE as the musical guest, while Dakota Johnson and Turnstile, Shane Gillis and Rosalía, and Inde Navarette and Gracie Abrams are already on the calendar for the weeks that follow.
