What had started as a defense became a title change when Rey Mysterio rushed in with a neck brace and counted the deciding pin for El Grande Americano.
That result made The American Grand search term relevant for one simple reason: the championship changed hands at Triplemania 34: Night 2 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico on Sept. 13, 2026, and the ending was messy enough to send people back for a replay. Midway through the match, Corey Graves announced there were no disqualifications, and that opened the door for everything that followed.
Dominik Mysterio leaned into the chaos. He used a chair and Dorian Roldán’s belt during the match, while JD McDonagh tried to throw El Grande Americano off rhythm. The assist battle kept escalating from there. Los Americanos came out to back El Grande Americano and took out JD McDonagh, Bravo Americano splashed onto Rayo, JD McDonagh and AAA officials from the top of the video board, and Omos entered after winning Copa Bardahl earlier in the night to support Dominik Mysterio.
The match still turned on a few clean bursts of offense. Liv Morgan knocked El Grande Americano off the top rope, Dominik Mysterio hit the 619 and then a frog splash, and yet he still could not finish the pinfall. El Grande Americano answered by headbutting the official, and Dominik later knocked him out with the Mega Championship. That should have ended the exchange, but instead it brought Rey Mysterio to the ring to count the pin for El Grande Americano, a count that settled the title change and left the champion without the last word.
The result fits the rivalry around this run, with Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano framed as former partners turned bitter enemies. It also sits inside a wider Triplemania 34 arc in which Rey Mysterio had been brutalized by Omos on Night 1, and El Grande Americano had already had to fight Original El Grande Americano to keep his mask before this title push. What comes next is the piece WWE and AAA have not answered yet: whether Dominik gets an immediate rematch, or whether El Grande Americano’s new reign starts with the uncertainty built into the finish itself.
