Umar Kremlev secretly paid for hundreds of thousands of dollars in Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding expenses in the Bahamas, including the fireworks, the island rental and other costs tied to the three-day celebration. The payments came through an IBA-affiliated entity in Dubai, according to the report, which says Kremlev’s team also helped plan the event.
The wedding unfolded on a pair of ultra-exclusive private islands, where helicopters and seaplanes brought guests in before they settled into oceanfront villas. On May 24, Trump Jr. was there with about 50 guests, including Jared Kushner, Eric Trump and Kremlev himself, as a five-tier funfetti cake was airlifted in from Florida and fireworks later rose from a barge over the sea.
The money matters because Kremlev is the head of the International Boxing Association, an organization financed by Gazprom, the Russian state-owned energy giant. The report describes him as close to President Vladimir Putin, and it says the financing was kept secret until ProPublica disclosed it.
That secrecy sits awkwardly beside Trump Jr.'s own account of the event. He later described the wedding on his podcast as “really small, like, just really close friends,” said he “tried to keep it really tight,” and added that it was “just awesome.” Yet the guest list included a Russian figure with a shaved head who speaks limited English, and some attendees were said to have stood off by themselves speaking Russian.
On the last night, Trump Jr. lifted his bride into the air while fireworks burst overhead, a scene that now carries a different weight after the funding details surfaced. The unresolved question is not whether the wedding was lavish; it is why an entity tied to the International Boxing Association and Kremlev was paying for a Trump family celebration at all.
