The Ravens elevated Chris Moore and Carl Jones Jr. from the practice squad on the eve of Sunday’s season opener in Indianapolis, a move that gives Baltimore two more veterans to work with as it sorts out its Week 1 roster. Moore, a fourth-round pick in 2016, has not played in a regular-season game for the Ravens since 2020.
His return matters because Baltimore is already stretching its depth. Devontez Walker was limited all week by a groin injury and is questionable to play, while Teddye Buchanan was ruled out with a knee injury. That leaves the Ravens looking for help at receiver and inside linebacker, and Moore appears to be the answer on the first front while Jones can help on special teams and provide another option in the middle.
For Moore, this is the kind of opening that can disappear quickly. He is back in game-day consideration after four seasons away from a regular-season snap in Baltimore, but the elevation does not guarantee a role or a target count. The simplest read is that the Ravens wanted insurance for a game that could force them to lean on depth early, especially with Walker not fully cleared.
Baltimore also added Jamon Johnson to the practice squad and released Lardarius Webb Jr., another reminder that the roster is still shifting right up to kickoff. Johnson spent last season on the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad and played high school football at Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore before becoming a two-time national champion at Georgia. The moves fit a team that is trying to protect itself without overcommitting before the first snap.
The Ravens visit the Indianapolis Colts to open the 2026 regular season, and they enter as favorites to start with a win. Whether Moore is active, and how much he is used if he is, is the next question that matters. For now, the clearest sign is that Baltimore wants more options than it had a day ago.
