That is why this matchup keeps drawing attention. The club remains dangerous, but the results have not matched the attack’s best moments.
Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-Min were at the center of the latest one, assisting each other on LAFC’s two goals in Utah. Bouanga now has 20 goal contributions in MLS play in 2026, with 12 goals and eight assists, and his next goal would tie Carlos Vela’s LAFC regular-season record of 78 goals. Son scored his fifth MLS regular-season goal over the weekend, and his assist was his 11th in MLS play, leaving him tied for second in the league with 12 assists alongside Messi.
Red Bull New York arrives with a different kind of pressure. Michael Bradley’s team is 7-10-6 and 10th in the Eastern Conference after a 0-0 draw with Seattle Sounders on Saturday night, and Ethan Horvath was the reason it stayed scoreless, making six saves for his second clean sheet of the MLS regular season. The contrast goes deeper than the table: Red Bull New York has the youngest roster in MLS, and its starting XI in Seattle averaged 22 years, 24 days.
The meeting gives LAFC a clean test of whether its home field can break a habit that has followed it on the road. The club does not need a reminder that the schedule can move quickly; it needs a finish. If Bouanga gets one more, the club record falls. If the draws keep coming, Wednesday night becomes another note in a stretch LAFC is trying to leave behind.
