Jannik Sinner is set to return this month at the China Open in Beijing after missing the US Open and two other summer tournaments because of an injury. The World No. 1 is atop the entry list for the ATP 500 event, which runs from 30 September to 6 October.
That makes Sinner one of the first big names to reappear after a summer that kept him out of the Canada Open and Cincinnati Open, then the US Open. For a player who has been absent since the injury surfaced, Beijing is now the clearest marker of when his season is supposed to restart.
The entry list also gives the field a sharp shape behind him. Alexander Zverev is listed second and Novak Djokovic fourth, but Carlos Alcaraz is not in Beijing at all. Instead, Alcaraz is scheduled for the Laver Cup from September 25-27 and then Tokyo for another ATP 500 from September 30 to October 6, where he is defending his crown.
That split means Sinner and Alcaraz will not meet in the same event again until the Shanghai Masters on October 7-18, if all goes well. For now, the more immediate question is simpler: whether Sinner’s return lands exactly as planned when the China Open begins at the end of the month.
