The Seattle Storm host the Los Angeles Sparks at Climate Pledge Arena on Aug. 30, and the preview is built around a simple question: can a game with this many defensive cracks stay under the total? Los Angeles comes in at -120, Natisha Hiedeman of the Storm is questionable, and Seattle is trying to string together its third set of back-to-back wins of the year.
That search is not hard to explain. The Over has cashed in nine of the last 10 meetings between Seattle and Los Angeles, and each of Seattle's last six home games against the Sparks has gone Over as well. The market is leaning into that pattern because the matchup has the same shape again: the Sparks allow 92.3 points per game, Seattle has given up 92.9 since July 12, and the Storm are last place while still ranking seventh in scoring over their last 15 games.
The interior numbers point the same way. Dominique Malonga has powered an attack that ranks tied for fourth in paint scoring, while the Sparks allow 43.0 paint points per game. Malonga also ranks eighth in the WNBA in rebounding, with at least nine boards in 17 of her last 24 games, even after two straight sub-nine rebound outings. On the other side, Dearica Hamby has failed to reach six rebounds in eight of her last nine games, though she has eight or more rebounds in each of the Sparks' last seven road games against Seattle.
Jade Melbourne adds another reason the total is drawing attention. She has scored at least 12 points in five of her last seven outings, and her scoring line was 11.5 on Sunday. Los Angeles is also 8-5 to the Over after wins, which fits the broader profile of a team that has been more comfortable in games that turn loose and fast. The Sparks have no key injuries to report, so the only real pregame uncertainty sits with Hiedeman, whose status could shape Seattle's rotation more than any number in the betting market.
For Seattle, that is the twist. The Storm can point to improved scoring, but the same team has still been leaking points and sitting in last place, which makes every possession feel heavier than it should in a game that already looks tilted toward the Over. If Hiedeman is ruled in, the Storm have a cleaner path to matching the pace. If not, the pressure shifts again to Malonga and the home offense to carry a night that already looks like it belongs to sparks vs storm in more ways than one.
