Bill Skarsgård is being linked to Marvel Studios’ Ghost Rider project, with the actor rumored to be in talks for a role in the film. Ryan Gosling is attached to star and Shawn Levy is set to direct, putting the project back in the spotlight as Marvel pushes toward a June 28, 2028 release.
That is enough to send search interest rising today because the rumor points to another possible Marvel turn for Skarsgård after he played Zeitgeist in Deadpool 2 in 2018. If the deal happens, it would mark his second Marvel role in a decade and place him inside one of the studio’s most closely watched projects.
Levy has already talked publicly about the project at Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at 2026 San Diego Comic-Con, saying he and Gosling spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter before Gosling started sharing his vision for the character and the movie. Levy said they kept riffing until he finally told him, “Bro, let’s ride!” That kind of talk does not mean a cast deal is done, but it does show Ghost Rider is far beyond a casual idea.
The catch is that Skarsgård is only being rumored for talks, not confirmed, and the role itself has not been identified. Marvel Studios has also already moved on from earlier speculation that he might play Charles Xavier, with Christopher Abbott now cast as Charles Xavier in the forthcoming X-Men reboot. That leaves Ghost Rider as the current lane for his name, even if the exact part remains out of view.
Mark Steven Johnson, who directed the earlier Ghost Rider films, has also weighed in, saying he is thrilled the character will finally join the MCU and praising Gosling and Levy as the right pairing to bring it back. The wider question is not whether Marvel wants attention on Ghost Rider; it already has it. The question is whether Skarsgård ends up inside the project and, if he does, which version of the character Marvel is assembling around Gosling.
Those details matter because the Ghost Rider name has been used for different characters before, and the franchise has already shown Danny Ketch, including a young version played by Fergus Riordan in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. If Skarsgård is joining this film, he is stepping into a role that still has room for Marvel to define, and the studio has not said which face will be under the flames.
