Peacock has greenlit a three-part documentary on Wendy Williams and the daytime show that made her one of TV’s most recognizable voices. The series, tentatively titled Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show, is set to air in 2027, with Suzzanne Bass serving as an executive producer.
The timing matters because the project does not arrive as a general nostalgia piece. It comes after The Wendy Williams Show ended its run in June 2022, and after years in which Williams’ absence from the program became part of the story itself. The show had been renewed for a 13th season, but she did not appear, and guest hosts filled her slot through the final stretch.
That long fade gives the documentary its weight. Peacock is bringing in 20 former staffers from The Wendy Williams Show, and they are expected to describe what it was like behind the scenes with a host who turned reaction into spectacle. For Bass, that history is personal. She often appeared on camera reacting to Williams’ hot takes, which means she is not entering this project as a distant observer but as someone who lived inside the rhythm the show created.
The film will also examine the cost of fame and the unresolved questions around Williams’ exit from her own program. That makes the project more than a retrospective. Williams has disputed any cognitive impairment diagnosis and has petitioned to have her guardianship removed, so the documentary is being assembled while the central figure remains locked in a fight over how her health and independence should be understood.
There is still one thing Peacock is not saying: which stories from the 20 former staffers will make the cut. That omission matters, because the title promises celebration, but the subject invites something sharper. By 2027, the real draw may not be whether the show remembers Williams fondly, but whether it finally explains how a defining daytime franchise ended with so many questions still hanging over it.
