Jaleel White says filming HGTV's Totally '90s House with a cast of former child stars felt less like a new job and more like one long reunion. The series, which puts two teams to work renovating outdated homes while trying to keep the retro charm intact, premieres Wednesday, Aug. 26.
White is hosting the nostalgia-driven competition, and he says the familiarity was immediate. He said he knows every member of both teams from crossing paths over the years and described the experience as a high school reunion come to life. That is fitting for a show built around the same era that made the cast famous.
Team Mauve brings together Jodie Sweetin, Brian Austin Green and Beverley Mitchell, while Team Curtains includes Keshia Knight Pulliam, Melissa Joan Hart, Matthew Lawrence and Joey Lawrence. HGTV experts Carter Oosterhouse and Sabrina Soto will help guide the renovation work, and the winning team will earn a $25,000 prize for the charity of its choice.
White also said he has renovated a couple of homes in California himself, which gives him more than nostalgia to lean on as the host. But he also made clear that the reunion feeling is not entirely a surprise: he had already crossed paths with much of the cast over the years, especially on sets tied to Full House, so the chemistry did not need to be manufactured for television.
That matters because the show is being sold as a celebration of the 1990s, but its cast already arrives with shared history. The result is less a blind meet-and-greet than a competition among people who know one another well enough to make the banter feel lived in. For viewers, the draw is not just the homes being updated, but watching familiar TV names compete for charity while trying to preserve the decade that made them household faces in the first place.
