Fromm Family Foods recalled roughly 5,800 cases of two wet dog food products after complaints of possible metal contamination, pulling the items from neighborhood pet stores and online retailers across the U.S. and Canada. The recall covers Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food and Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food.
The move is landing now because the products were already in circulation when the company identified the problem and announced the recall. For dog owners who bought the food, the immediate question is whether a can in the pantry matches the affected lot codes and UPCs.
The larger share of the recall involves 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food, sold in 12.2-ounce cans with UPC 072705118700 and lot code EP2A3306 551006. Another 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food were included, in 12.5-ounce cans with UPC 072705132324 and lot code EP2A3306 551029. Together, the two products account for almost all of the roughly 5,800 cases pulled from the market.
No illnesses or injuries tied to the products had been reported, but the company warned that ingesting metal can pose serious risks to dogs. That risk can include choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, stomach discomfort, cuts to the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, partial blockage or intestinal obstruction.
Fromm said it identified the error behind the recall and took corrective action to prevent it from happening again, but it did not give further details about what went wrong. That leaves the recall with a clear fix on paper and an unanswered question about how the contamination complaint first reached the company.
For now, the recall turns on a simple check: the name on the label, the can size, and the lot code. If a can matches those details, it belongs in the recall, and the reason it got there remains the part Fromm has not fully explained.
