Boca Juniors and Racing Club left Avellaneda with a 1-1 draw that did little for either side and plenty for the argument over what was missed. Marcos Rojo put Racing ahead from the spot at 8 minutes, Miguel Merentiel answered at 29, and the match closed with both teams still searching for a winner that never came.
That is why the Racing Club Vs Boca Juniors head-to-head record is being checked now: this was the sixth date of the Torneo Clausura 2026, and the result moved Boca to 7 points and Racing to 5, leaving both outside the playoff places in Zone A. Boca now sits in 10th place and Racing in 12th, which is not where either side expected to be after a match built as much on urgency as on quality.
The first goal came after Ayrton Costa stepped on Ezequiel Cannavo inside the area, a foul that Nicolás Ramírez initially let go before Fernando Echenique reviewed it on VAR and the penalty was awarded. Rojo finished the chance and gave Racing the lead, but Boca did not break. Leonel Flores started the move that led to Merentiel’s equalizer, and the forward made it 1-1 before halftime.
Racing argued that Dylan Gorosito had fouled Elías Torres in the build-up to Boca’s goal, but play stood and the equalizer counted. That sequence captured the feel of the night: a classic with controversy, goals and enough openings for either side to win it. Santiago Ascacibar later had a chance to make it 2-1 for Boca before the interval, only for Ignacio Rodríguez to clear off the line, while Gastón Lodico kept out a shot from Flores in the second half and Enner Valencia sent Boca’s clearest late chance over the crossbar.
Both teams are carrying their own weight into the next round. Racing had not won in the Clausura since the first date, and it will host Platense on Monday 31 at 19:00. Boca, which has now drawn three straight local matches, had to do without Leandro Paredes because of a left hamstring muscle injury, and Racing was missing Adrián Martínez because of suspension. The draw leaves the two clubs close in the table, but still chasing the points they needed on a night when the chance to separate themselves was there and went unused.
