Anna-Lee said she wrote How to be a WAG as a playful dig at wives and girlfriends in football during the FIFA World Cup, while she was working with OK! magazine and other gossip magazines. She described it as an 11-page, audio-only satire and said anyone who took it as fact had missed the point. She also said it had nothing to do with age, pushing back on the criticism that she was encouraging women to behave like gold diggers.
