Kaden Davis keeps forcing his name into the Bears conversation. On August 9, he ended practice with a walkoff 34-yard touchdown from Tyson Bagent, another sharp play in a camp that has made the 27-year-old wide receiver hard to ignore.
That finish mattered because Davis is not just collecting practice highlights. He signed with the Chicago Bears during the offseason and has been trying to turn a fast start into something sturdier, with snaps for the first team offense and a crowded wide receiver room standing between him and a real roster push. Davis has already flashed in different settings this week, including a sprawling one-handed catch on August 5 on a corner end zone pass from Caleb Williams and another sharp grab on August 6 from Case Keenum before drawing a flag for punting the ball.
His work on August 9 added more weight to that run. Davis also beat Dillion Thieneman in the open field earlier in practice when the rookie safety took a bad angle, a reminder that his camp production has not been limited to contested catches near the goal line. The Bears have Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, Kalif Raymond, rookie Zavion Thomas and Jahdae Walker in the receiver mix, which means every route Davis runs is part audition and part survival. Walker earned a spot on the 53-man roster last season as an undrafted wide receiver out of Texas A&M, and that is the kind of path Davis is trying to follow.
There is still a clear line between camp and the games that count.
