Nebraska Athletics unveiled its 2026 alternate football uniform on Friday, and the look is built for a specific kind of stage: a night game at Memorial Stadium. The black uniform with metallic red accents will first be worn on Halloween against Washington in the second-annual Blackout game.
The reveal landed on huskers.com, where Nebraska tied the design to the atmosphere of a Husker football night game and the theme “Our Red Burns Brighter.” The jersey carries a custom perforated Block N on the lower back panel, while the collar lining reads “A Winning Tradition.”
The black helmet matches the uniform’s edge. It carries the Huskers script in metallic red, an “A Winning Tradition” emblem on the back and a stripe built with a crop row pattern. Nebraska said the metallic red accents were inspired by flames, fireworks and the red that fills Memorial Stadium on game day.
The timing gives the announcement its weight. The uniform is being introduced now, but the Huskers will not wear it until Halloween, when they host Washington in the same stadium that shaped the design. The delay keeps the reveal fresh for fans while tying the new look to one of the program’s biggest home nights of the fall.
That night-game identity is not just branding. Inside the collar, Nebraska’s tradition is described as helping the Huskers win over 81 percent of their night games inside Memorial Stadium, a figure that explains why the school is leaning so hard into the setting.
