Disney has set the Frozen 3 release date for Nov. 24, 2027, and the studio backed it with the first look at the sequel during its D23 fan event on Friday. The footage showed Anna and Kristoff’s wedding being upended by a new villain, giving the next chapter in the Frozen franchise its clearest story tease yet.
That is the update fans have been waiting for after the film was originally dated for 2026 and then pushed to 2027. The shift matters because Frozen and Frozen II were not ordinary box-office hits; the first film, released in 2013, grossed $1.28 billion, and Frozen II followed in 2019 with $1.45 billion.
Kristen Bell walked onto the D23 stage with Idina Menzel and said Anna and Elsa are going on their biggest journey yet. Menzel added that they will find themselves far from Arendelle in wild and dangerous land. Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff are also back, and Gad has already said the extra time was meant to keep the film from feeling rushed.
That caution fits the franchise’s scale, but it also explains why the new date landed where it did. Gad said in 2025 that there was a reason the movie was coming out in 2027 because no one wants to rush this, and that the team wanted something worthy of the story set out in 2013. In other words, the delay was not a pause for its own sake; it was part of making room for a bigger payoff.
The footage also introduced the story’s friction point: the wedding appears to be crashed by a villain who says, “The sisters of Arrendale, we finally meet.” Disney has not identified that character, which leaves the plot’s biggest unknown intact even as the release date is now fixed. Bob Iger has also said Frozen 4 is in development, but that film has not been dated.
For now, the next hard date is Nov. 24, 2027, and that gives Disney a holiday launch for one of its most valuable animated properties. The bigger question is not whether Frozen 3 is coming anymore; it is how far Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf will be taken before the story reaches the wedding that started it all.
