Jeff Sneider said on the August 13 episode of The Hot Mic that Suzy Bemba could play Storm in Marvel’s MCU X-Men reboot, turning a quiet bit of chatter into the week’s sharpest Storm Casting rumor. He said the tip came from a longtime source shortly before he went live, but he also signaled that he was not fully certain it would stick.
That uncertainty matters because this is exactly the kind of casting note Marvel fans are hunting for ahead of D23. Storm is one of the most closely watched mutant roles in the studio’s next phase, and Bemba’s name gives that search a face: a 26-year-old actor who broke through with Poor Things and is now appearing in the upcoming Cliffhanger film alongside Lily James.
Bemba also brings a profile that makes the rumor easy to see, even before anyone inside Marvel confirms anything. She founded the Actors Association, or ADA, a support group that fights harassment for French actors, which adds another layer to a public image that is still early but clearly building. The rumor landed because it was specific enough to feel real and tentative enough to resist being treated as settled fact.
John Rocha added another reason the name is getting traction: Bemba’s darker complexion, he said, lines up with fan hopes for a more comics-accurate portrayal of Storm. Rocha also suggested her age could give Marvel room to pair Storm with a new T'Challa in Black Panther 3 or in later films, a long-game idea that fits the studio’s habit of planting character relationships far ahead of time.
Even Sneider framed the possibility as a creative fit rather than a certainty. He said the casting felt more like a Ryan Coogler choice than a Jake Schreier choice, a comparison that points to the kind of tone fans think Marvel may want for Storm if the studio is building toward a more grounded, character-driven version of the mutant team. Still, the important gap remains open: whether Marvel is actually considering Bemba or whether this is simply one strong source feeding a rumor mill that has been especially active around X-Men.
Sneider also said four X-Men cast members could appear at the D23 panel, naming Sadie Sink, Samara Weaving and Kit Connor as likely attendees along with a possible fourth reveal. He cautioned that Marvel’s presentation would stay relatively modest compared with the larger expectations building around the event, which means the studio may offer just enough to keep casting talk moving without ending it. For now, Bemba is the name to watch, but not yet the answer.
