Nick Aldis did not strip Chelsea Green of the WWE Women's Championship on SmackDown. Instead, after bringing her to the ring at TD Garden in Boston and addressing the broken eye socket that has put her status in doubt, he gave her 30 days to get cleared.
That decision keeps the title in play for now and makes the next month the only clock that matters. Green said she earned the championship and that until someone takes it off her, it is hers. Aldis did not push back on that point so much as set a deadline that leaves her with a narrow path to keep it.
WWE returned to TD Garden on August 14 with championship business at the center of SmackDown, and Green's segment opened the show. The timing mattered because fans were already looking for answers about the title picture, and this was the clearest one: Green keeps the belt unless she cannot get medically cleared within the 30-day window.
The friction came quickly. Aldis first asked Green to relinquish the title because of the injury, then changed course and gave her the 30 days instead. That left the championship neither vacant nor settled, only suspended over a recovery timeline that can end two ways. If Green gets cleared, she stays champion. If she does not, the title situation turns again.
Gunther interrupted the opening segment and insulted both Aldis and Green, which brought Matt Cardona to the ring in defense of Green. After the commercial break, Gunther and Cardona fought in an impromptu match, and the result did not soften the mood around the show. Gunther powerbombed Cardona onto the commentary table, survived a Rough Ryder for a near fall, then finished him with consecutive powerbombs before adding a Boston Crab to force the issue.
The rest of the show kept moving around title stakes. Nia Jax and Lash Legend came out after Gunther's match, and Jax said she wanted to challenge for the WWE Women's Championship. Tiffany Stratton tried to make the save and was left lying, a reminder that Green's uncertain status sits in the middle of a division already crowded with people pushing at the door.
That is why the next 30 days matter more than the segment itself. Aldis chose not to end Green's reign on the spot, but he also did not offer open-ended patience. He turned the championship into a short, clear test, and the outcome now depends on whether Green can satisfy the condition he set before the deadline runs out.
