Disney has shown the first trailer for The Bluey Movie, giving fans their first clear look at the blue heeler’s leap from television to the big screen. The film is now set to open in theaters on August 6, 2027.
The reveal came Friday at Disney's D23 event in Anaheim, where the crowd got the first public glimpse of a CG-animated feature based on Bluey. Melanie Zanetti is back as Mum Chilli, alongside David McCormack as Dad Bandit, with Joe Brumm and Richard Jeffery attached to helm the film and Brumm writing the script.
That first look matters because Bluey already arrives with a built-in audience. The series follows Bluey, her mom Chilli, her dad Bandit and sister Bingo, and it has spread well beyond its Australian roots through Disney Junior and Disney Channel, with streaming on Disney+. By the first half of 2026, it ranked No. 2 among all streaming titles, a level of reach that makes the move to theaters feel less like a gamble than a natural next step.
The movie is not simply a longer version of the show. It is built as a CG-animated pic from Ludo Studio in collaboration with Studios, and its story turns on an action-packed day when a big surprise changes everything for Bluey and her family. That setup is the piece Disney is holding back from full view, even as the trailer confirms the film’s look and the return of the core voices.
